How long can a Capital One card sit unused?

Capital One is among the most lenient major issuers on inactivity — but 'lenient' is not 'forever.'

Often 2+ years, but not guaranteed

Capital One frequently leaves cards open longer than Citi or BofA. Reports of 24–48 months exist. They have also closed cards for very low usage, not just zero activity.

Still worth automating

Every-six-months activity is a reasonable cadence for Capital One while staying cheaper than monthly. If the card matters for history, do not bet the account on being the exception.

Automate it on every card

KeepCardAlive runs a $0.99 charge on each card you link, on a schedule matched to the issuer. Pause or cancel anytime. Email receipt every charge.
